A.W. Tozer's short booklet "Worship: The Missing Jewel in the Evangelical Church" is a reminder and chastiser of current Christian worship status or lack thereof.  The 21st century is marked by seeking modernity to meet the intellectual expectations and worldview conformity.  We adapt to the lastest mobile phones, latest fashions, or latest trends as expected from modernity worshipping society.  Unfortunately, we bring the same modernity pursuance to corporal, familial, or personal worshipping of God.

Martin Luther once wrote to Erasmus "your thought of God is all too human".  We buried God's majesty or glory under sentimental cliches like "I have Jesus in my heart", "God is not petty and understands my heart", "God is loving and will understand".  A.W. Tozer reminds us that the God of the bible is an immutable God.   It doesn't matter how much we advance in technology or thinking (although we seemed to be getting more foolish than wise), the God of the Old Testament and New Testament is unchanging perfect being.  He is an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, holy, and infinite God.  Our "admiration", "fascination", "adoration", awe, and fear should be immutable and He is immutable.  

Psalm 19:1 says "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."  A.W. Tozer reminds us the Westminster Shorter Catechism's first question: "What is the chief end of man?" That answer is still the same 380 years later.  The answer still reprimands and rebukes our self-centered and deceived hearts: "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever".  

Heavenly Father, I pray that we will once again rediscover the true worship as we worship you in spirit and truth. Grant what you will, so I may glorify you through total surrender to the Holy Spirit.  In the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who taught me to pray, AMEN!
