In electing the next president, Christians should be focusing on the character of the candidate and policies that glorifies the God the most.  In 2016 election, we all know both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have serious character flaws.  Donald Trump speak in venomous manners while Hillary Clinton has proven to be completely corrupt.  We question the validity of both candidates' claims to being Christians.  Many evangelicals are deciding not vote at all thinking that "voting for lesser of two evils is still evil”.

This type of logic to not vote is serious flawed.  First of all, voting is simply voting and must remain so.  All candidates are flawed because the same sinful nature plagues them as it plagues us.  There will never be a “righteous” candidate since all human beings are made righteous in the eyes of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Secondly, if a Christian sees five people drowning and the Christian knows that he can only rescue one person, he must still save that one person.  He doesn’t give up his effort just because he can’t rescue all five drowning people. That way of thinking is nihilistic and doesn’t glorify God at all.  Christians simply put our best efforts trusting in God and not give up because the result is not perfect to our liking.

Lastly and most importantly, we must acknowledge that God is sovereign.  Current generation is not only sinful, but directly challenges God.  It is God who defines the sanctity of life.  It is God who defines marriage is between a man and a woman.  It is God who defined the gender when he created Adam and Eve in the image of God.  The definition of life, marriage, and gender is God’s providence as written in Genesis 1 and 2.  It is not decided by LBGT, government, nine unelected judges, or even Christians, but they humbly recognizes this truth.  The life, marriage, and gender is the building block of a family.  We must actively protect the first institution God has created for our benefit and fulfillment.

Even though it is difficult, God has used imperfect human beings to bring out his glory many times in the bible (see Judges and disciples).   We must be able to pray and discern which policies are more aligned with the obedience to the sovereignty of God.

I pray that Christians to not rely on feelings, but actually take our time to know policies of both candidates pray to the Holy Spirit for the correct spiritual discernment.
