Radical, by David Platt, teaches and reminds its readers what our true goal in life should be as Christians -- not sitting on physical comfort and prosperity but doing everything we can to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and take part in God's plan to save those who have yet to have heard and accepted Jesus as their Savior.

I do not think there is anything surprising or revolutionary about the contents of the book, as it is merely stating the Biblical fact that we as Christians have been tasked by Jesus after His resurrection with the Great Commission -- to "...make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). That said, the book makes a convincing reminder that with our life properly aligned with God, where our desires align with the kingdom of Heaven, the Great Commission is not a burden but a joy.

As I read the book, I was reminded of how I live my life ignorant of my real mission in life. There is a section in the book that talk about how Christians through generations appear to have "blind spots", prioritizing certain Christian values over others, despite the fact that all should be considered just as equally. This had me thinking about what I have personally in my blind spot, and how I should overcome them.

Another memorable part during reading was regarding physical participation in missions. There is a section in the book where the author briefly questioned the value of spending resources to be physically present (for just a short time) in missions as opposed to simply providing those resources for material aid. The author recounted an  anecdote where a person thanked him for their presence there; the most important part in missions is not the physical aide but the human relationship that ultimately results in the sharing of the Gospel. I have had similar questions about my usefulness of going on short-term missions, and this part somewhat gave me assurance.

The reality for Christians is that none of the things said in the book should be "radical" but just a reminder to do what the Bible says. I personally hope to challenge myself to live a life that is more and more aligned with God's Kingdom and the Great Commission.
