Due to the influence of the postmodernism viewpoints, the biblical understanding of two topics, authority and obedience, have been diminished and corrupted.  As the current generations herald anti-authority and ridicule obedience, Under Cover by John Bevere reaffirms the true understanding of the authority and obedience as God revealed through the bible.

On page 39, John Bevere writes "revealed, not communicated, knowledge (God's commands) is our greatest guard against deception".  Just as Eve only accepted the information that Adam "communicated" to her regarding not eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and thereby disobey God's command, we treat God's knowledge as second-hand information that was "communicated" to someone else who in turn "communicated" to us, instead of acknowledging as being "revealed" directly to us.  This self-deception justifies our disobedience by simply carrying around the God's knowledge/commands externally instead of treasuring it deep in our hearts, or treating it like a burden, or worse yet, interpreting it to fit into our small and comfortable world.

The scripture teaches that the "Sin is lawlessness" (1 John 3:4).  God commands obedience through delegated authorities.  These authorities include civil magistrates, pastors, cell group leaders, parents, and others. Under Cover poignantly captures that we intentionally avoid obeying delegated authorities by creating obedient conditions.  We falsely create conditions like these delegated authorities must prove their biblical aptitude or adhering characteristics that are acceptable to us.  After earning these acceptable proofs, we stamp their authority and admit to earning our partial obedience.  Romans 13:1 tells us, "There is no authority except that which God has established."  Even if delegated authorities have character faults or even act evilly like King Saul, we need to acknowledge them as delegated authorities by God and respectfully honor them.  It is God who establishes authorities and we must not usurp God's plan by creating obedienice requirement conditions.  We must believe that God is in perfect control and established these authorities for his ultimate plan of redemption of man.

Under Cover by John Bevere admonishes us that through the scripture, pastors, or parents, God "desires obedience over sacrifice" because that is the "highest form of worship". During the Disciple Bible Study, we learn about God's time, kairos.  Just as God commands through Moses, David, Peter, Paul, and other prophets/apostles, his established authorities on this earth will reveal God's truth to be obeyed and that time to obey is kairos.

1 John 5:2,3

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
