[청소년부] Arizona Reflection      - Ian Kim, Youth Ministry 

I thought the mission trip to Arizona was going to be boring at first due to the long preparation meetings. 
Plus, weed picking and hosting a VBS camp does not sound like a fun way to spend a week of your summer.
It took me the whole week to realize that this was a once in a lifetime experience and that it was exciting.
I thought it was a great way to get to know and become friends with other people who knew Christ. 

Although I have to admit that picking weeds was not very enjoyable, being with a group and having the chance to talk to friends while you worked made the task survivable. Also, during VBS, it was a lot of fun to interact with the kids from the area and bring them closer to God. In our group, some of us thought our VBS camp was not very successful, but I thought we did a decent job and that we did better than I expected.

We brought five children to Christ at the end of our three-day VBS camp. One thing that I thought was unique was walking around and handing out flyers with gifts to people. We did this in order to advertise our VBS camp, which was taking place on the following day. I was often surprised by how each of the people’s houses looked inside and out-side. If you peeked inside while you were talking to them, you would usually see a bit of a mess and that the inside of each house was untidy. I always had a heavy feeling of sorrow in my chest towards the people and also since more than half of the people we met had missing teeth. 
Additionally, during VBS, you would always see all the kids with worn out shoes that were not in the best shape. This made me realize and be thankful that my life was so different and more blessed compared to theirs.

So in all, I thought that this whole trip was a good experience because it really opened my eyes to what I usually just put aside and never thought about. This mission trip was great and it really impacted me and I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to go on this wonderful trip. I also thank the church community that supported the mission team on our trip. Thank you so much!
