In Old Testament, God refers to the promised land as "the land flowing with milk and honey" (Deut. 31"20). We all know that Israel is a harsh desert with no oil or anything of value. What do milk and honey mean?
The milk is referring to the word of God as whole (1 Peter 2:2–3) and not partial. We need the milk first as Hebrews 5:12 says, then the solid food. Some Christians think that "love", "mercy", and "gentleness" part of the bible is milk and subjects like "wrath, "repentence", and "judgement" are solid foods. That interpretation is unsupported by the scripture. Even subjects like "wrath, "repentence", and "judgement" are part of the milk. The scriptural truth and knowledge is the whole milk. We can see this in Exodus as Jews who did not drink the milk (commandments) were punished severely even though they just became God's official babies and nation.
The "honey" is when we finally realize that the world of God is sweeter than the actual honey. From head knowledge to the deep heart conviction of the truthful revelation by God. When we understand in our hearts why God said what He said and why God did what He did and how magnificent His decisions were. We realize how our current worldviews have been foolish. With deepest repentances, we truly taste and live the word of God because it is the living Word of God, our Jesus Christ's direct revelation to us. That is the honey.
The land flowing with milk and honey is where first we have the scriptural head knowledge by drinking the milk, then our hearts are convicted, so the scripture is sweeter than honey, then the Holy Spirit gifts are fully utilized to bring out fruits of the Holy Spirt.
